We love to play games in our family.? Board games, card games, sports, and puzzles ? you name it and the Fleck family probably loves it.? It makes me so happy as a mama to see my kids, now that they are a little bit older, playing a game together and I love it when we have family game nights.? Looking around the table at all the smiling faces that belong in my ?nest? makes this mama bird pretty happy.
For today?s Unplugged Play activity, gather your family and play a favorite game together.
Cupcake Race
One of our new family game night favorites, especially with my preschooler, is called Cupcake Race. We were given a copy of this game to review and it has become one that my four year old and six year old ask to play on a regular basis.
From Endless Games, Cupcake Race is for ages four and up and is a board game for 2 to 4 players.? The object of the game is to be the first player to mix, bake, frost, and top your cupcake and then bring it to the party.
The games utilizes turn taking, counting, color recognition, and order of operations (first you mix, then you bake, etc).? Along the way players may encounter some obstacles such as broken eggs, spilled batter, or burned cupcakes ? similar to what happens in our real kitchen.? We like to call those little accidents ?teaching moments? in real life and they are funny within the context of the Cupcake Race game, too.
For my four year old, winning isn?t really the motivation, but she enjoys going through the process of making her cupcake.? I appreciate that there is an optional rule for older players, too.
Safety Note: There are many teeny, tiny little pieces that come with this game so it is one we reserve for when the baby is napping.? The makers of the game warn against choking hazard and the game isn?t intended for kids under age 3. I put a small zip-top baggie in the game box so that we can keep all of the little pieces together and store them safely out of reach of little hands, especially since some of the parts do resemble food.
If you have a preschool aged child on up, I think you?ll find this game is fun and it may just make your family hungry for cupcakes!
