Skyrim 1.6 update adds mounted combat ? Video Games Reviews ...

For those of you wishing you could dispatch enemies with extreme prejudice by riding them down on your trusty steed in Skyrim, Bethesda is set to deliver in the form of the 1.6 update to the game.

Announced yesterday, players of the PC version can apply the update and unlock both ranged and melee combat while riding a horse. It?s a welcome addition that is sure to make fans of the popular RPG very happy indeed since you originally needed to install a mod to be able to do battle in this way.

Saddle up your horse in Skyrim

We caught a glimpse of the new gameplay feature thanks to YouTube user AlexanderJVelicky?who put together a compilation of battle clips while riding around the open world on his horse.

From watching his video it?s apparent that Bethesda took some time and care to create a realistic feel for battle on horseback, as you have to master positioning your mount to be able to strike effectively at your foes. This is easier said than done while standing still, but is infinitely easier while moving towards your target. Having seen live action jousting exhibitions, I can confirm that this is inline with what the experience would be in real life.

The update also fixes several bugs that have been plaguing some individuals during gameplay. They include crashes related to loading and saving games and improving the logic for ranged kill cams.

Unfortunately, if you are playing the game on the Xbox 360, you will have to wait for the update to hit Xbox Live. Bethesda doesn?t have an exact date as to when it?s releasing the code for distribution, but I imagine it shouldn?t be too long of a wait.
