Anthony Sedlak, Food Network Canada Host And Accomplished Chef, Dies At 29

Anthony Sedlak, a renowned chef and television host on Food Network Canada, died Friday after collapsing from an undiagnosed medical condition, Sedlak's family announced Monday. He was 29.

Anthony Sedlak was host of "The Main" on Food Network Canada and a judge on the network's "Family Cook Off." He also authored the book "The Main," which became a bestseller in Canada.

"We were first introduced to Anthony in 2005 on the set of 'Superstar Chef Challenge,'?where he wowed us all with his warm personality, passion for his craft and skill in the kitchen," the network said in a statement. "Since that time Anthony became a much loved member of the Food Network family, entertaining and inspiring fans through four seasons of 'The Main'?and his latest venture,?'Family Cook-Off.' His passing is a terrible loss and he will be sadly missed by all of us at Food Network."?

Anthony Sedlak's foray into food began as a teenager, when he completed a specialized program and a four-year apprenticeship in his native Vancouver, according to the CBC.

Sedlak won numerous awards for his culinary skills, including a silver medal for Canada in the World Junior Chef Challenge in New Zealand when he was 23, the Associated Press reported.

Following the apprenticeship, Sandak headed to London to work at La Trompette, a Michelin Star-rated eatery.

Sedlak also opened the American Cheesesteak Co. restaurant in the Yaletown section of Vancouver and was working on upgrading restaurants and room service menus at Toronto's Don Valley Hotel & Suites, the CBC reported.

The Food Network Canada website published a number of condolences from the network's personalities, who shared their memories of Anthony Sedlak.

"The last time I saw Anthony, he was on the line at his Cheesesteak restaurant in Vancouver doing what he loved to do shortly after it opened," said Roger Mooking, host of "Heat Seekers." "There was a huge lineup and you could tell he was having fun and very proud."

"In shock and deeply saddened over the sudden death of my friend, Anthony Sedlak," tweeted Kim D'Eon of "Family Cook Off." "My thoughts are with his family and all who loved him."

"I only met fellow?@FoodNetworkCA?host?Anthony?Sedlak?once but liked him instantly," tweeted Food Network Canada host Greta Podleski. " Can't believe he is gone at age 29. Very sad news."

A private service is scheduled for Sedlak in Vancouver.
